Dan Hides

Dan Hides works from his Newlyn studio to create hand-thrown domestic earthenware, which are decorated with various coloured slips and glazes that produce colourful dot and stripe designs, creating items which are both beautiful and useful. He also creates more specialised pieces such as large planchers and vessels, glazing them in colours inspired by his wonderful surroundings of the sea and coastline.

Beginning his career undertaking a two year apprenticeship at Dartington Pottery in 1989, he moved on to complete a two year HND course in ceramic design at Falmouth School of Art. Working for several years as a production thrower at Willow Pottery near Bath, Dan went on to run his pottery studio in Bristol, before relocating to the enchanting Cornish coast.

Trade Winds Gallery are delighted to be part of the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) 250 Club. SAS is a marine conservation charity working with communities to protect oceans, waves, beaches and marine life. We are really proud to support the work that they carry out, such as beach clean ups, education and campaigning, and look forward to continuing to be part of the positive change!
