The constantly shifting interface of the land and sea which surrounds artist Julia Mills serves as fuel for her imagination and can be seen as the recurring theme in her fantastic glass works. As a glass artist, Julia discovered her craft in 1999 whilst in Cornwall, where she has lived and worked ever since. Working from her Newlyn workshop, just a stone’s throw away from the bustling harbour, she finds inspiration in the ephemeral light of the coast.
Choosing to use only the highest quality handmade glass sourced from around the world, Julia creates contemporary glass art full of colour and movement, enlivened by natural lines, tiny bubbles and intricate textures. Using acid-etching and sand-blasting techniques to manipulate the light as it falls onto the glass, she enjoys experimenting with translucence, colour combinations and organic forms.
The bright and contemporary artworks are part of her growing range, from glass panels ready to be hung from a window or doorway, to commissions for public spaces, private houses and businesses. No matter the scale of the piece, Julia has a wonderful way of creating unique designs which captivate the eye.
