Paul Humphriss

After retiring in late 2019 following a career as a draughtsman in the shipbuilding industry, Paul felt free to pursue his lifelong interest in woodcraft.

Having lived in the Waterside area, the western edge of Southampton Water, all of his life, Paul has always enjoyed spending time on the local beaches: fishing, walking and beachcombing. Paul found himself fascinated by the action of the sea and the shingle on washed up wood and intrigued by the waring of timber to leave attractive shapes and patterns and the bleaching of the sea salt and wind.

Paul uses pine to create fabulous painted fish carvings and combines these with driftwood collected on his strolls on our shores and forests resulting in fun, striking pieces.
